 Thursday 21st June 2007 6 officers from Tower Cycling for Jack – Verity Wells Hamlets Police will cycle the coast to coast route from Cumbria and to Sunderland. 2 Drivers who will follow in convoy will also support the 6 cyclists.
The team consists of Sergeant Simon Grant, Inspector Terry Ward, Sergant Mick Redmond, PC Andy McLennan, PC Gareth Hughes, PC Paula Cooper, PC Pam Reilly and PC Craig Standley.
The cycle route will cover 3 different Police Constabularies.
The team are expected to take 4 days to complete the 140 mile cycle, they are doing this to raise money for the Jack Brown Appeal - Jack is the 5 year-old son of two serving Metropolitan Police Officers, who is currently fighting cancer in New York.
Tower Hamlets Police Borough Commander Jerry Savill is supporting the officers on this charity cycle by allowing them to use the Police Mountain Bikes.
PS Simon Grant who has organised this event said” This event marks the culmination of a number of events our team has organised to raise money for Jack. The whole team has tirelessly made efforts to raise funds for this worthy cause over the last year and we have collected over £2500 in total. You can't possibly measure the amount of pain and anguish Jack Brown and his family have been through throughout his treatment and whilst cycling 140 miles across the fells will be hard, it's a small price to pay to see this little lad on the road to recovery".
